Colocasia leaves are the large, heart-shaped leaves of the taro plant. Used in Konkani patrode (steamed spiced leaf rolls), Gujarati patra, Tamil kollu vadai wrappers, and Maharashtra alu vadi. The leaves must always be cooked as raw leaves contain calcium oxalate crystals that cause irritation. When cooked properly they have a mild, earthy flavor.
