
Mithila Fish Bharta

Garnish
- Coriander Leaves (optional) (garnish) — 2 tbsp (chopped)
Main
- fish — 250 g (chopped)
- green chillies — 10 g
- Lemon (optional) — 10 g
- salt (optional) (whole)
- onion — 100 g (chopped)
- coriander powder — 1 tsp (ground)
- Red Chilli Powder (Lal Mirch) — 1 tsp (ground)
- Turmeric Powder — 0.5 tsp (ground)
Tempering
- Mustard Oil — 2 tbsp (whole)
- Cumin Seeds — 1 tsp (whole)
Method
- Rub the fish pieces with a little salt and turmeric.
- Heat mustard oil in a pan and shallow-fry the fish until browned and cooked through. Remove and debone.
- Mash the fish coarsely in a bowl.
- In the same oil, lightly fry the chopped onion (and cumin); add to the mashed fish.
- Add finely chopped green chilli, coriander leaves, red chilli powder, coriander powder, salt and a squeeze of lemon.
- Mix in a little raw mustard oil and serve with steamed rice.
