
Jaintia Smoked Fish Rice
Steamed rice mixed with flaked smoked fish and mustard oil. Simple Jaintia Hills lunch staple from mining communities.

Ingredients
Garnish
- Coriander Leaves (optional) (garnish) — 2 tbsp (chopped)
Main
- rice — 250 g (ground)
- fish — 250 g (chopped)
- salt (optional) (whole)
Tempering
- Cumin Seeds — 1 tsp (whole)
- Mustard Oil — 2 tbsp (whole)
Method
- Cook the rice until soft and fluffy, then keep aside.
- Roast the smoked dried fish lightly over flame, then flake it, removing any bones.
- Heat mustard oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add the flaked smoked fish and saute for a couple of minutes.
- Mix the cooked rice into the fish, season with salt, and combine well.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
