
Tomato Rasam
Spicy South Indian tomato rasam simmered with crushed pepper and cumin, tempered with mustard, garlic and curry leaves - light on the stomach and traditionally eaten to aid digestion.

- Coriander Leaves (garnish) — 2 tbsp (ground)
Main
- salt (optional) (whole)
- Garlic — 4 piece (chopped)
- Turmeric Powder — 0.25 tsp (ground)
- Tamarind — 1 tsp (whole)
- black pepper — 1 tsp (ground)
- Tomato — 3 piece (chopped)
- Water — 2 cup (whole)
Tempering
- Mustard Seeds (Black) — 0.5 tsp (whole)
- Ghee — 0.5 tsp (whole)
- Cumin Seeds — 0.5 tsp (whole)
- Curry Leaves — 1 piece (ground)
Method
- Boil tomatoes. Blend to puree. Mix with water and tamarind juice.
- Crush pepper and cumin coarsely. Add to tomato mixture with turmeric.
- Bring to boil. Simmer 10 minutes.
- Temper with ghee, mustard seeds, curry leaves, crushed garlic.
- Pour temper over rasam.
- Garnish with coriander. Serve hot.
