
Mysore Bisibelebath
Mysore's iconic one-pot rice: rice and toor dal simmered with mixed vegetables in tangy tamarind and bisi bele bath powder until thick and porridge-like, finished with ghee.

Ingredients
Garnish
- Coriander Leaves (optional) (garnish) — 2 tbsp (chopped)
Main
- tamarind water — 120 g
- green beans — 18 g
- Red Chilli Powder (Lal Mirch) — 1 tsp (ground)
- coriander powder — 1 tsp (ground)
- Drumstick — 8 g
- Carrot — 50 g
- rice — 100 g (ground)
- salt (optional) (whole)
- Bisi Bele Bath Powder — 6 g
- Ghee — 17 g (whole)
- Arhar Dal (Desi - Unpolished) — 60 g
- Turmeric Powder — 0.5 tsp (ground)
Tempering
- Coconut Oil — 2 tbsp (whole)
Method
- Wash the rice and Arhar Dal together and soak 15 minutes.
- Heat the Coconut Oil in a heavy-bottomed pan over medium flame.
- Stir in the coriander powder, Red Chilli Powder, Turmeric Powder and Bisi Bele Bath Powder and roast 30 seconds until they darken a shade.
- Add the rice and dal with salt, turning them 2 minutes in the spiced oil.
- Add the Carrot, green beans and Drumstick along with 400 ml hot water, cover and cook 15-18 minutes on low until the rice and dal are soft and the vegetables are tender.
- Stir in the tamarind water and cook a further 3-4 minutes.
- Beat the mixture with a ladle for a minute so the bath turns thick and creamy.
- Fold in the Ghee in two lots and simmer 3 minutes until it gleams.
- Garnish with Coriander Leaves and serve hot.
