Method

  1. Dry-roast the moong dal in a little ghee until golden and fragrant. Wash the rice and add it in.
  2. Pressure-cook the rice and moong dal with about 2.5 cups water for 4-5 whistles until very soft; lightly mash together.
  3. Powder the jaggery, melt it in a little water, bring to a boil and strain out impurities.
  4. Pour the strained jaggery syrup into the mashed rice-dal and cook on low, stirring, until it thickens and comes together.
  5. Stir in most of the ghee and the cardamom powder; mix until glossy.
  6. Fry the cashews and raisins in the remaining ghee until golden and fold them in. Serve warm as prasad.
