
Nyishi Dried Fish Curry

Garnish
- Coriander Leaves (optional) (garnish) — 2 tbsp (chopped)
Main
- Garlic — 1 tsp (ground)
- Tomato — 2 piece (chopped)
- Red Chilli Powder (Lal Mirch) — 1 tsp (ground)
- Ginger — 1 tsp (ground)
- onion — 2 piece (chopped)
- coriander powder — 1 tsp (ground)
- Turmeric Powder — 0.5 tsp (ground)
- Vana Meen (Dried Fish) — 250 g (chopped)
- salt (optional) (whole)
Tempering
- Cumin Seeds — 1 tsp (whole)
- oil — 2 tbsp (whole)
Method
- Soak the dried fish in warm water for 15-20 minutes to soften and rehydrate; drain.
- Heat oil in a kadhai; add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add chopped onion and saute until golden.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and saute till the raw smell disappears.
- Add chopped tomato, turmeric, red chilli powder and coriander powder; cook until the masala thickens.
- Add the rehydrated dried fish and mix well to coat with the masala.
- Pour in water, cover and simmer for 15-18 minutes so the dried fish releases its concentrated umami into the curry.
- Adjust salt, garnish with coriander leaves, and serve hot with rice.
