
Kongunadu Ragi Puttu
Steamed finger millet cylinders layered with coconut. Kongunadu healthy breakfast high in calcium.

Ingredients
Garnish
- Coriander Leaves (optional) (garnish) — 2 tbsp (chopped)
Main
- Ragi Flour — 250 g (ground)
- salt (optional) (whole)
- Coconut — 100 g (chopped)
Tempering
- Coconut Oil — 2 tbsp (whole)
Method
- Mix ragi flour with a little salt. Sprinkle water gradually and rub it in with your fingers until the flour turns crumbly, breadcrumb-like (not wet dough).
- Pass the moistened flour through a sieve to remove lumps.
- Fill the puttu maker (kuzhal) alternately with a layer of grated coconut, then a layer of the moist ragi flour, repeating until full; finish with a coconut layer on top.
- Place the puttu maker over a pot of boiling water and steam for 8-10 minutes, until steam escapes freely from the top.
- Carefully push the steamed cylinder out onto a plate. Serve hot, drizzled with a little coconut oil, alongside banana or a side curry.
