- Coriander Leaves (optional) (garnish) — 2 tbsp (chopped)
Main
- Moong Dal — 150 g (whole)
- salt (optional) — 4 g (whole)
- banana — 100 g (chopped)
- Turmeric Powder — 1 g (whole)
- green beans — 100 g (chopped)
Tempering
- Coconut Oil — 2 tbsp (whole)
- Curry Leaves — 8 piece (ground)
- Mustard Seeds (Black) — 1 tsp (whole)
- Urad Dal — 1 tsp (whole)
- dry red chillies — 3 g (whole)
Method
- Soak the moong dal (paasi payiru) in hot water for 30 minutes; drain well.
- Grind the soaked dal coarsely with the dry red chillies and a little salt, using very little water, into a thick grainy paste.
- Grease a steamer plate, spread the ground dal, and steam for 10-12 minutes until firm. Cool and crumble into small pieces.
- Peel and chop the raw banana; cook it with the French beans, turmeric, and a little salt until just tender.
- Heat coconut oil in a kadai; add mustard seeds and urad dal, let them crackle and turn golden, then add curry leaves.
- Add the crumbled dal usili and saute on low flame for 3-4 minutes until dry and slightly crisp.
- Fold in the cooked banana and beans; mix gently and adjust salt. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice and sambar or rasam.
