
Tripuri Bengali Fish Curry
Bengali-style fish curry adapted with Tripuri ingredients like bamboo shoot. Fusion of two dominant food cultures.

Garnish
- Coriander Leaves (optional) (garnish) — 2 tbsp (chopped)
Main
- onion — 2 piece (chopped)
- Ginger — 1 tsp (ground)
- fish — 250 g (chopped)
- coriander powder — 1 tsp (ground)
- Turmeric Powder — 0.5 tsp (ground)
- Garlic — 1 tsp (ground)
- salt (optional) (whole)
- Bamboo Shoot (Kanile) — 100 g (chopped)
- Red Chilli Powder (Lal Mirch) — 1 tsp (ground)
- Tomato — 2 piece (chopped)
Tempering
- Cumin Seeds — 1 tsp (whole)
- oil — 2 tbsp (whole)
Method
- Clean and marinate the fish with turmeric and salt.
- Heat oil in a kadhai; shallow-fry the fish lightly until golden and set aside.
- In the same oil, add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté until the raw smell disappears.
- Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric, red chilli powder and coriander powder; cook until oil separates.
- Add the bamboo shoot with a little water and simmer for 5 minutes to soften.
- Slide the fried fish back in, add water to reach a light gravy, cover and simmer for 8-10 minutes.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice.
